In the early Church, there were only twelve (12) Apostles. The numbers increased day by day (Acts 6:1). Today, one particular assembly of a church could have over one thousand (1,000) members. The development of this software came as a solution to a problem. In 1997, the originator was holding about 5 positions in the church and he needed processed information about all the various church groups, fellowships and ministries he was heading at any point in time. Some of the sets of information needed were membership details, membership status and financial information, among others. These sets of information were needed as fast as possible, automatically and in an Inter-related manner for different scenarios and projections.
The problem here was and still remains that manual sets of information is very difficult to handle. It is time consuming and requires a lot of human capital to come out with a simple report of generating the active, inactive and nominal members of a church within a particular period. The questions always remain, how many are women? How many are men? How many are children? What is the reason for someone not being in church? Have they travelled or they are ill. Does the church need to take any necessary action? Ordinary flat file applications like excel, which is used by most church leaders to manage such information doesn’t provide opportunities for creating relationship between the membership information and the social needs of members like Welfare or Care Ministry. The relationship cannot be effectively done for linking members to their contact and family details as well as financial contributions like tithes, harvest and offerings.
In order to solve the problems above, the developers came out with sets of questions to help them tease out what is needed to be done. The main question was “Could a comprehensive ICT system be developed to cater for all the information needs of the contemporary church?” The specific questions were; 1. Could the system help to manage detailed information about membership of the church and make them readily available? 2. Could the system help manage and report the church’s financial information and link them to the membership information? 3. Could the system help manage the social needs of the church members through welfare associations? 4. Could the system help manage the children within the church and link them to their parents?
The main objective of the system was to develop a comprehensive ICT system to cater for all the information needs of the contemporary church?” The specific objectives were as follows; 1. The system should help to manage detailed information about membership of the church and make them readily available. 2. The system should help manage and report on the church’s financial information and link them to the membership information. 3. The system should help manage the social needs of the church members through welfare associations. 4. The system should help manage the activities of the children within the church and link them to their parents
In spite of the fact that the originator is from Christ Apostolic Church International, the system is developed for all churches, be it Orthodox, Pentecostal, Charismatic, among others. All the same, customisation could be done for specific denominations, churches and assemblies.
